Koch Pipeline, Flint Hills Resources Award Grants to Texas First Responders

 HOUSTON, Texas – As part of their 2015 Helping Heroes program, Flint Hills Resources and Koch Pipeline Company have awarded approximately $175,000 to 38 emergency response organizations that provide services to more than 20 Texas counties. The grants were distributed in October in recognition of National Fire Prevention Month.

“The goal of Helping Heroes grants is to help fire departments and emergency respCorpusChristiHelpingHeroes2015onders purchase what they need, be it training or equipment,” said Phil Gaarder, executive vice president of operations for Flint Hills Resources.  “This year, the majority of the grants are for equipment needs to help keep our first responders safe.”

“The majority of Texas firefighters are volunteers so it’s important to honor this genuine, personal contribution,” said Larry Van Horn, vice president of operations for Koch Pipeline Company.  “We are grateful for the essential services these dedicated individuals continuously provide to our communities.”

Grants awarded in 2015 ranged from $2,500 to $10,000 and were determined by a team of internal safety professionals based on the specific needs submitted by applicants. Applications were accepted from May 1 – August 1, 2015. A list of grant recipients is provided below.

Flint Hills Resources and Koch Pipeline Company began the Helping Heroes grant program in 2012 to support Texas fire departments and emergency responders. The grants have been used for training, education, equipment, and emergency notification needs. Through 2015, the companies have awarded approximately $500,000 in grants across the state.
